How to get your vehicle road trip ready for the holidays.
The Holidays are around the corner and that means family, food and traveling. Nearly 63% of Americans travel for the holidays to see their loved ones. If you are one of these travelers, you would probably want to plan for your road trip. Here are a few things to keep in mind to make sure your vehicle is running in good condition for the holidays.
1. The Brakes
The braking system is one of the most vital safety features of a vehicle. Faulty breaks can put you at risk, especially if you haven’t serviced your brakes in sometime. So, ensure the brakes are in good condition before you hit the road. You may never know what you might encounter on the road, from animals crossing on the highway or even stop and go traffic in the cities.
2. The Tires
One thing that might be the scariest of most is getting a flat tire of popping a tire on the highway. You would want a skilled specialized technician to check over your tires and get them an alignment. Let’s look at what a tires check entails:
(i) Tire Pressure- An over or under-inflated tire can cause a wide array of issues including premature wear, a bumpy ride, overheating, and even tire blowout. As such, it’s important to ensure the tire pressure is set to what is recommended on the vehicle owner’s manual.
(ii) Tire Wear- Are the tire wear patterns uneven? Is the tread in ideal condition? You cannot depend on the tires if the tread is not deep enough or they’re worn to a point they can’t gain traction.
A proper tire inspection can reveal misalignment, which takes a toll on both the tires and fuel efficiency on your vehicle. So, do you and your family a fav and check those tires.
3. The Fluids
You will want to make sure all your fluids are topped off before your trip. Including oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, windshield washer fluid, and antifreeze. Have your trusted dealership check through all of these to make sure all fluids are were they need to be. After your service make sure to have a sticker in the windshield of miles and last service scheduled so you know when the next time you need it to be serviced.
4. The Lighting
In your scheduled service. You will want your service technician to check through all the bulbs in your vehicle. The last thing you need to too get pulled over for a ticket or concern someone on the road when turning lanes when in traffic. A dull headlight can cause you not to see well when traveling at night so, make sure your headlights are clear and your bulbs shining bright.
